Description

This workshop gives venue teams the knowledge and tools to take real ownership of their spiking prevention strategy. By using lived examples, venue-based tasks, and practical roleplay, staff will build the confidence to act quickly and appropriately, putting safeguarding policy into visible action every night. Through shared accountability and active communication, the team will strengthen their venue’s culture of care from the ground up.

Objectives

– Understand the different types of spiking and how they happen in a night-time venue
– Spot the early signs and symptoms of spiking incidents
– Apply practical preventative measures in their space
– Know what to do in a spiking-related emergency
– Define safeguarding roles like the Night Safe Champion and Welfare Officer
– Support lone or vulnerable customers effectively
– Complete dynamic risk assessments with confidence
– Communicate incidents clearly and appropriately to partners
– Strengthen local relationships with support services and safety networks
– Promote incident learning and continuous improvement
