Description

This workshop equips late-night venue operators, managers, and frontline teams with the knowledge and confidence to lead on harm reduction across a range of issues, including alcohol and drug use, mental health, sexual harassment, and supporting customers who use medicinal cannabis, within licensed premises. Attendees will explore legal responsibilities, practical strategies, and how to embed a compassionate, policy-led approach to welfare and safety. The session directly supports NSSA accreditation by embedding the 5 Pillars of Excellence and ensuring consistent, inclusive practices that make customers feel safe, staff feel empowered, and policies become a lived part of day-to-day operations.

Objectives

– Describe the range of harm reduction issues relevant to night-time venues
– Understand the legal context of medicinal cannabis and how it applies to licensed premises
– Recognise and appropriately support customers using medicinal cannabis
– Implement consistent procedures that reflect harm reduction in daily operations
– Ensure policies, reporting, and communication are inclusive, visible, and accessible
– Work collaboratively with partners to create a safer night-time environment
– Build a practical, tailored Harm Reduction & Medicinal Cannabis policy with defined roles
