Description

This training empowers venue teams to foster truly inclusive and welcoming spaces for LGBTQ+ customers and wider marginalised communities. Through lived experience, reflective activities, and venue-specific tasks, staff will learn how discrimination, unconscious bias, and outdated norms can harm safety and wellbeing. We’ll explore the role of identity, music, space, language, and culture in shaping a night out, and work together to implement real change through policies, partnerships, and the power of accountability.

Objectives

– Define key LGBTQ+ terms and identities with confidence
– Understand the historical and cultural contribution of LGBTQ+ communities to the night-time economy
– Recognise how exclusion, discrimination, and hate crimes impact different communities
– Explore intersectionality, bias, and the role of privilege in night spaces
– Identify how design, language, music, and marketing shape who feels welcome
– Learn the role of Public Sector Equality Duty and Equality Impact Assessments
– Review real-world examples of inclusive practice and inclusive failures
– Define safeguarding responsibilities for vulnerable and marginalised groups
– Reflect on their own space’s inclusivity and set actions for improvement
– Commit to inclusive partnership working across safety networks and the local community
